Patna: The East Central Railway (ECR ) has made a record earning of Rs 13,738.36 crore by way of loading goods (114.93 million tonne ) in the financial year 2015-2016. This was disclosed by ECR GM A K Mittal while addressing a high- level meeting of the ECR's Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) on Friday.
He said the railways, as part of its policy to keep improving passenger amenities, attached additional coaches to 17 long-distance passenger trains during the year, which benefited about one lakh passengers. Besides, the number of coaches
has been increased in a few mail and express trains from 18 to 24 to meet the rising demand of seats and berths in these trains, he said.
According to the GM, cleanliness is being maintained at every station in ECR. Several projects pertaining to construction of new lines, platform sheds and ten foot over bridges at stations have been completed. Seven new platforms and five road over bridges have also been completed in the zone.
The GM pointed out two mega bridges -- Digha-Sonepur rail -cum- road bridge and Munger rail bridge -- were made functional this year. Escalators have been installed at Patna Junction and Dhanbad Junction while work to install escalators at ten more stations is on. New PRS (passenger reservation system) counters have been started in the military cantonment area in Gaya to take the pressure off the counters of Gaya Junction, he said.
Speaking at the meet, MP Chhedi Paswan demanded more passenger amenities at Sasaram station under the Mughalsarai division of ECR. He also urged the GM to make the coach indication display board at Sasaram functional so that passengers could conveniently locate their coaches on platforms.
MP Hari Manjhi demanded increase in the frequency of Garib Rath through Gaya Junction and stoppage of Duranto at Gaya Junction. He urged the ECR GM to get sanctioned a road over bridge near Karimganj in Gaya.
MP Ram Kumar Sharma Kushwaha demanded a direct train between Sitamarhi and Pataliputra Junction while MP Satish Chandra Dubey urged the ECR GM to develop all big and small stations falling in East Champaran and West Champaran districts of Bihar.
Another senior member of the committee pleaded that the Rajendra Nagar Terminal-Howrah Express and Capital Express trains should originate from and terminate at Danapur station.
Earlier, the ECR GM welcomed the guests and highlighted the achievements of ECR during the current fiscal. Deputy general manager Subodh Kumar conducted the meeting while ECR AGM proposed a vote of thanks.
