The Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) has charged the Central Railways of making systematic efforts to deny A1 railway station status to Kalaburagi Railway Station, and of depriving the railway station of normal revenue generation by reportedly shifting...

In a letter to the Zonal Manager of the Central Railways in Mumbai — a copy of which released to the press in Kalaburagi city on Friday — secretary of the HKCCI Amarnath Patil said that the reported reduction in the tatkal quota of all trains at Kalaburagi Railway Station was a blatant attempt to reduce the revenue generated at the railway station.
He said Kalaburagi Railway Station was one of the oldest railway stations in the country and was the focal point for movement of people in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. This provides access to major metropolitan cities including Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
According to information available with the HKCCI, the tatkal quota of Kalaburagi Railway Station had been drastically reduced and the reduced quota transferred to Hotgi and Bagalkot railway stations. Mr. Patil urged the Zonal Manager to reverse the decision to increase the tatkal quota of Kalaburagi in the overall interest of travellers from the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
Mr. Patil said the Railway Pit Work in Kalaburagi Railway Station sanctioned by the then Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge should have been completed by this time and the assurance given by the Railways to complete the work by June 2015 had not been adhered to. The delay in completing the project had dimmed the prospects of starting new trains from Kalaburagi.
The sanctioned new train, to run between Kalaburagi and Hyderabad daily, had not been started because of the delay in pit line work.
“The HKCCI requests you to complete the pit work at Kalaburagi Railway Station on war-footing to facilitate commencing of trains from Kalaburagi to Bengaluru and other new trains,” he said.
