A REFRESHER ON WAITING LISTS. THE EXPLANATION OF A LAYMAN BY A LAYMAN for LAYMEN > GNWL (GENERAL WAITING LIST) tickets are issued when the journey commences at the originating station or stations close to the originating station and ends at the terminating station or close to the terminating station. This is the most common category of WL and has the highest chance of confirmation > RLWL (Remote Location Waiting List) tickets are issued for intermediate stations between the originating and terminating stations because usually these are important cities or towns on that... more...
route. This waiting list has a separate priority and confirmation will depend on the cancellations of a destination confirmed ticket. Remote location stations prepare their own chart 2-3 hours before the actual departure of the train. Chances of confirmation of RLWL tickets are less. > PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List) is a common pool shared by several small stations en route. These tickets are generally issued for journeys from the originating station to a station short of the terminating station OR between two intermediate stations. > RLGN (Remote Location General Waiting List) is issued when a user books a ticket under the RLWL. After booking RLWL gets renamed as RLGN. > RSWL (Roadside Station Waiting List tickets are allotted when berths/seats are booked by the originating station for journeys up to the roadside stations irrespective of distance restrictions. Chances of confirmation are rather remote. >RQWL(Request Quota Waiting List) If a ticket is to be booked from one intermediate station to another intermediate station and it is not covered by general/remote/pooled quota, the request for the ticket goes into RQWL where chances of confirmation are least. PS. I found this in a Whatsap post and thought it could form the basis for a healthy debate and discussion. The explanation is open to correction and elaboration by our WL experts in IRI like Dipyaman Basu, Pramodh Kommattil and many others of their ilk. All are welcome to contribute and participate.
One of the very old description which I had probably seen in IRFCA. Not only it is flawed but also vague, ambiguous and confusing. Too much mixing up of phrases like 'close to origination station' and or 'close to terminating station' and similar things. Also discards the fact that RLWL/RLGN and RSWL/RQWL are the same thing.
Agreed, Dipyaman. The descriptions are sketchy and ambiguous. That is why I am requesting knowledgeable guys like you and many others at IRI to refine this explanation and add value with your own inputs.
To add to this useful piece of info provided by PKV Sir there was something on PQWL which i had found.Sharing something on the same. Some of you may have already seen it before. It was in this same site. Pooled Quota WL-This quota has got very few seats allotted, sometimes even in single digits. This is the most complex of all the quotas. Though the waiting numbers are in sequence, confirmation is not in sequence. This is for the simple reason that waiting numbers are given continuously but the allocation of seats is purely based on availability for a particular leg of the journey.Pooled quota is the most complicated quota and the chance of confirmation highly depends on your train, on your... more...
journey leg, and most importantly your luck. It is also influenced by the bookings in other quotas. One piece of interesting information is that there is no RAC under Pooled quota quota. It is either waiting list or confirmation.
For starters, if you purchase a PRS Ticket, it will show RQWL while if you check the PNR online, it will show RSWL. Same goes for RLGN and RLWL Also, you would never find a confirmed ticket issued against RQ/RS/RL(GN,WL).
