Indian broad gauge is NOT as per international standards. One widely adopted gauge internationally is the "Standard Gauge" which is narrower than the broad gauge. So you will find that in most other countries, trains are much narrower - have less width.
By far, Indian long-distance trains are among the broadest in the world - they can accommodate the side berth, 6+2 people per compartment. With standard gauge, there may be only 5 people per compartment.
