betterment of the quality of service being provided to the public is assessed.
In course of this inspection, the Jogbani, Bathnaha, Forbesganj, Arariya, Jalalgarh, Purnea, Ranipatra and Katihar stations along with other Railway infrastructure like Bridges, Level crossings etc were inspected. Public Representatives and members of various public organisations met him at these stations. In the course of his inspection, the General Manager inaugurated the newly developed station circulating area and LED lighting at platforms at Jogbani station and inaugurated the new station building of Bathnaha station under the Jogbani – Viratnagar (Nepal) project. He also inaugurated two Terminal Management System (TMS) (for freight traffic) at Jalalgarh and Ranipatra. During the GM’s inspection at Purnea, Honourable Member of Parliament, Shri Santosh Kumar inaugurated the newly-renovated platform number one along with the circulating area.
Shri Arun Kumar Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager of Katihar highlighted the following achievements of his Division during the current financial year:
(i) Gross Earnings of the Division has been 16.4% higher than last year.
(ii) In remarkable show of operational efficiency, the Division has done a Total interchange of 110 trains on 11th September 2014, which was the best-ever achievement. The throughput of 3686.9 wagons per day during September 2014 had been the highest ever.
(iii) Cleanliness Drive: A total of 6995 cases of littering of railway premises were detected in the Division during April to October and a total penalty of Rs. 7,17,390 was levied.
(iv) A computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) was opened at Gangtok on 5th April 2014 and National Train Enquiry System (NTES) was opened at Barsoi on 3rd April 2014.
(v) With the commissioning of a`n Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) at Maniyan station on 4th July 2014, the total number of stations having such system in the Division has risen to 82.
(vi) Two Un-manned Level Crossing gates have been converted to Manned Level Crossing gates in the year.
(vii) On-line booking of Retiring Rooms have been implemented for 13 stations over the Division.
