Cancellation is not allowed in premium trains as they are mainly meant for emergency travel and make up for increased traffic at special occasions. However, what about situations that prevent travel beyond the control of the commuter?
Recently, I had to face a situation of the death of a immediate family member preventing travel by premium train - however, I could not cancel ticket as it was not allowed and neither could I travel. I had booked 4 seats which meant that those seats would be blocked without any benefit to any passenger and also I would not get any refund.
I...
more... think IR should include some situations when a ticket can be cancelled by an individual not only in premium trains but also in tatkal in some serious personal situations in addition to train cancellation.
I list some reasons as follows:
1. Death/ critical medical condition preventing travel of passenger
2. Cancellation of ticket of fellow passengers in case of death/ critical medical condition preventing travel of 1 passenger in list
3. Death/ critical medical condition preventing travel of an immediate family member.
There may be many others, but this surely needs attention.
