Way back, in the year (I do not remember the month. The year is probably) 1995, I was to travel from Hyderabad to Mangalore. I traveled from Hyderabad to Bangalore and from Bangalore, I took the last train to travel from Bangalore to Mangalore before gauge conversion. It was a meter gauge train and I booked in the First Class. The train shook vigorously in the ghat sections. It was also raining heavily. There were not many people in the first class. I was scared. The whole night I could not sleep properly. It was a horrible experience. That was the last train from Bangalore to Mangalore. From the next day, there were no trains from Bangalore to Mangalore! I am happy that today two trains run from Mangalore to Bangalore. The day train can be made daily and can also be sped up with catering facilities so that Mangalore people...
more... can catch connecting trains to different cities from Bangalore in the evening. The day train also has to be extended till Bangalore City Junction. The arrival at Bangalore has to be earlier by at least an hour and a half.
From Mangalore, in 1996-98, to get to Hyderabad, there was only one train that was 17229 TVC to HYB Sabari express. I used to travel by 16649 MAQ to TVC Parashuram express. Then at SRR, coaches would be detached from Parashuram and attached to Sabari. The coaches were two sleepers and on 3-AC. And these compartments would run till Hyderabad as 17229 Slip. I do not know if this Slip train still runs or not but such trains should be there from Mangalore as connectivity of Mangalore with rest of India is less despite being an important city. The same is the case with Indore.
