Intercity Express (15719 & 15720), New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express (12042 & 12041), and Siliguri-Jogbani Intercity Express (15724), were cancelled. The New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express (12523) was rescheduled to depart at 12:00 hrs. The New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (20504), Silchar-Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express (13176), and New Jalpaiguri-New Delhi Superfast Express (12523) were diverted. The collision caused two rear compartments of the Kanchanjunga Express to derail, resulting in damage to four coaches. Prime Minister Modi announced ex-gratia payments for the deceased and injured. Railway services resumed on the downline near New Jalpaiguri on Tuesday, June 18th, with the Avadh Assam Express being the first train to pass the accident site at 10:42 AM. The undamaged coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express reached Sealdah station on Tuesday morning with nearly 850 passengers. The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northeast Frontier Railway, will conduct a statutory inquiry on June 19th.
