This tip has become obsolete in that the said train has been rerouted via MV and TVR against the previous route of KMU and TJ to reach NMI and then on to MQ.

Very good initiative. When we college students come to TJ by Mannai, the auto drivers demand Rs 500 for a mere 12 km
Even for my college which is 6 kms away they are asking 200rs.
Morning bus is also difficult. First we should go to New Bus Stand and when we try to board the Trichy bus, most of the buses dont allow to deboard at sastra
For my college I need to Change bus at old bus stand for another town bus.
Even from New bus stand I need to come to old bus Stand to come to my college.

Yes. It's still there with the same rope car and boating facilities in the pond. Few water games available there as well.
Even Kumbakonam is very close to my heart as I studied my UG there in SRC, SASTRA University..
How much time it will take to roam these above places? sat-sun is enough?
There are also interesting Vaishnavite places near by. There are three Divya Desams within 20 mins of Railway Jn, on the Thiruvaiyaru Road - 20, 21 & 22 - Neelamega Perumal, Gigantic Singaperumal (aka Yaali Temple) and Manikundra Perumal Temples. Also, within 10 kms is the Thirukandiyur (Kandiyur) Hara Shaaba Vimochana Perumal Divya Desam and further 1.4 kms from Kandiyur is Kalyanapuram - a very important Srinivasa Perumal Sthalam, also the local seat of both Ayishingar Ahobila Mutt and the Andavan Ashramam. Thanjavur is extra special.
