Most hotels in Digha follow the 10.00 am - 10.00 am check in check out policy(24 hours). This is done in accordance with the arrival and departure of 12858 Tamralipta Express. If you plan to board Super AC Express or Kandari Express from Digha then due to it's departure time, you have to pay an entire day's hotel fare if you plan to spend your time in the hotel till departure time of your train. This leads to quite a waste of money especially if you have chosen a costly hotel. In that case, you can do the following:

1.
...
Roam around Digha. If you do not have heavy luggage then you can roam around Digha and see some places like the aquarium, Old Digha etc.

2. Look for a cheap hotel. There are plenty of hotels available where you can get accommodation for one night for 500. If you have heavy luggage, select a room like that and stay there till the departure of your train. This is quite economical especially if the hotel you chose cost 1500-2000.

3. If all else fails, choose Tamralipta for departure. You might lose some extra time in Digha but still, you will save money.

Yes it is. Especially during the return journey. Super AC always comes out on top when compared to Tamralipta. By the way, which hotel did you stay in and what was the year? It might be that hotel policies have changed overtime or some hotel practice this while others do not.

Okay, then it might be that some hotels do not practice this which is good to know. We stayed in JP in 2017 and they had this rule. Still, this will be useful.

My experience of staying in hotels for the last so many years says: most hotels agree to give three hours 'grace' period especially if you inform them at the point of booking or check-in, provided they have rooms free. Secondly, many hotels give the facility for storage of luggage after you check out for a few hours. Finally, many hotels have something called 'half day's tariff' for the day of check out if you wish to use the room for 8-10 hours

Yes many hotels do agree to give you the room for 8-10 hours by taking half day's fare. I experienced the same in Dhanbad. But in Digha, they do not. Grace period yes but that is not sufficient to catch a train departing at 3.30. In fact, my hotel offered relocation to a guest house but the charges are excessive. However, from what I am hearing so far from IRI friends, some hotels in Digha do not have a strict 10.00 am policy.

If you have observed, most of the hotels in Old DIgha has a Check-In time at 10.30 am and check out at 10 am. This is done I guess, to allow people travel from station to the old township.

Yes,
Although I prefer staying in New Digha only, and have stayed over 12 times in numerous hotels.
Many of my friends, who have stayed in the past have confirmed the 10.30 check in at Old Digha hotels.

Indeed, plus it has all the nearby sight seeing spots like Amaravati Park and Udaipur Beach... Most importantly, it has the SBSTC bus depot and Railway station, which are the biggest plus point of the township...

The 2-storied station building has quite a number of rooms on the first floor - good location, view also should be good. One IR person said these are retiring rooms. Somebody may throw light on details w.r.t availability, booking procedure etc.
