History of "Travelers Angel" Statue of Puducherry Railway Station:

Angel : During the French regime , the South Indian Railway Company erected the railway track between Villupuram - Pondicherry. Then the Duke of Buckingham , the French governor of Pondicherry built the railway station in1879.
Before the construction of the railway station, the French government established a statue called Passenger's Angel. When Rail passengers take trips from the station, they use to worship the Goddess and it was their tradition and the Angel sends good wishes to win a trip .
The angel statue is made ​​of iron , 4 feet from the ground and 5 feet of the statue of the goddess was placed on the altar with lamps holding both hands up in the air , her head is like bowed in greeting the passengers .
A few years ago, the railway station has been renovated with interface configurations . Then ,the Puducherry Govt beautified the angel statue's hand in lamp, with lightings.
