In February 2021, a meeting was conducted in coordination with Divisional Railway Manager and Municipal Commissioner where it was decided to go ahead with the project to prevent tracks' flooding during monsoon.
Indian Railways completes micro-tunnelling at Masjid station! In a bid to avoid flooding on rail tracks, the Central Railway zone has recently completed micro-tunnelling work at Masjid railway station in Mumbai without disturbing normal train movement. A press release issued by Central Railways said Masjid station is situated at a lower level than the ground level. Thus, to overcome flooding of tracks, the national transporter decided to lay an RCC pipe of 1000 mm diameter by micro-tunnelling method without disturbing the movement of trains, as this tunnelling method has given
very good results at Sandhurst Road station area, where an RCC pipe of 1800 mm diameter was laid for 425 meter length, linking west side to east side across rail tracks.
In February 2021, a meeting was conducted in coordination with Divisional Railway Manager and Municipal Commissioner where it was decided to go ahead with the project to prevent tracks’ flooding during monsoon. According to Central Railways, the situation worsens during high intensity rainfall coupled with high tide, culvert’s inadequate capacity, lower storm water drainage network carrying capacity.
This project, covering both municipal area and railway area, started at the end of April 2021 in co-ordination with Indian Railways and the work was recently completed in railway area. Currently, the connection work of the newly laid RCC pipe with MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) network is in progress by MCGM and the same is expected to be over by the end of this month.
Once the whole project is completed, storm water will be bypassed through the new RCC pipe culvert. This will eliminate flooding of tracks and prevent storm water coming inside railway premises. During the monsoon period this year, the similar kind of work of micro-tunnelling has already been completed successfully at Sandhurst road station and Dadar-Parel area, in co-ordination with civic authorities

As heavy rains lashed Mumbai and tracks got flooded, another local train coming from opposite direction also got stuck near the same spot and a team has been sent to rescue the passenger
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on August 5 rescued some 150 passengers from a local train stranded between Masjid Bunder and Byculla stations on the Central line here, said an official.
As heavy rains lashed Mumbai and tracks got flooded, another local train coming from opposite direction also got stuck near the same spot and a team has been sent
to rescue the passengers, the NDRF official said.
The first local train left the CSMT station in south Mumbai but could not move beyond Masjid Bunder.
While 150 passengers in this train were rescued, another 100 were still inside, the NDRF official said.
The other local which had come from Karjat got stuck 60 metres outside Masjid Bunder, he said. Around 60 passengers were inside and a rescue team had been sent, he added.
Water had collected up to three feet on the tracks at this spot, forcing the motorman to stop the local, he said.

For passengers of Central Railway (CR), the new year's gift has come a step closer to Mumbai. The first air-conditioned (AC) local train rake is soon expected to start its operation, sans its 'height problem'.The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai sent the rake to Mumbai on Friday. The AC local that left Chennai three days ago arrived in Igatpuri on December 6, 2019.The train is expected to be introduced between Thane and Panvel, Panvel and Vashi railway stations on the Trans-Harbour railway line. It will be parked at the Kurla car shed till the trial runs and inspection of the AC local are carried out considering the height criteria of the train on CR routes, air-conditioning, seating arrangements and its final route etc.In a Christmas gift to Mumbaikars, the country’s first air-conditioned (AC) suburban train had made its maiden run on December 25th, 2017 on Western Railway. The first AC...
local was scheduled to run on the Central line, between CSMT and Kalyan, but there were some technical issues and the train was unable to run underneath some overhead bridges because of its height due to the built-in AC units. If all goes as per plan, the long-awaited dream of lakhs of CR commuters should come true in a couple of weeks from now. Hopefully, now the height of the train has been taken into consideration and made in accordance with the bridges, especially near Currey Road station and Masjid which were the root cause of the earlier problem. The fares of the AC local are expected to be on similar lines of the AC trains on Western Railway. Also, the AC local will have similar features like the WR AC locals, including automatic doors and the capacity to accommodate passengers.
