Karnataka has
coastal area - Mangalore, Udupi, Murudeshwara, Gokarna, Karwar, etc
Hill / forest areas - Madikeri, Nagarahole, Agumbe, Chikmagalur, Dandeli, Bandipur, etc
Historical places - Mysore, Hampi, Pattadakal, Bijapur, Kittur, Chitradurga, etc
Pilgrim
...
centres in South Canara, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Mysore, etc.
However, tourists wishing to travel by train will find it totally inconvenient as the state gets serviced by 6 zones - SWR, SR, CR, SCR, KR and newly created SCoR - with no coordination and haphazard linkages/ routes between them.

Karnataka and Rajasthan winning is understandable, but cannot believe no one voted for Meghalaya, Arunachal.
My ranking for some of the below states would be as follows -
1. Karnataka ( has eveything in terms of diversity)
2. Uttarakhand + Himachal Pradesh (only one word, Heaven)
3.
...
Meghalaya ( + other NE sister states) (nature's wonder)
4. Rajasthan (desert safari and incredible forts)
5. Madhya Pradesh (again a diverse state)
6. Maharashtra
7. Gujarat ( including UTs Dadra and Nagri Haweli, Daman and Diu)
8. Goa (People might rate it higher, but only couples and bachelors seem to enjoy Goa more, if you know what I mean)
Have not visited other states so cannot comment, but Kerala, J&K + Ladakh and Orissa might easily have been on the list.

I travelled in legendary Golden Temple Mail from BCT to ASR in 2008. It starts around 22.00 hrs from BCT on Day 1 and reaches ASR around 06.00 hrs on Day 3. So around 32 hours of journey! Today I might just go for 2 and a half hour flight😅...But yes, it was the experience!
