IR missed off the mark this Kumbha. They should have developed this station[on ALD-PBH route] and Sarai Gopal [on ALD-RBL direct route] to host some trains. Since long distance trains often take time to reverse themselves and go, many of them were shifted from Prayagraj Sangam to Prayag and then to Phaphamau. They could have then run an 12 coach EMU train from these stations to PYGS/ALD, doing UP/DN as fast as possible. Since EMU trains don't need time to reverse and can accelerate/decelerate faster, this would have linked the trains terminating at these stations to inner Allahabad way quicker.
But...
more... why am I suggesting 'Sarai Gopal', a one platformed halt? That's because whilst main CNB-ALD line is creaking under load of specials, there is one stretch that is incredibly underutilized here. I am taking of the CNB-ON-RBL-Unchahar track. The section b/w Unnao-Unchahar sees a cumulative of 3 trains in 24 hrs. By developing this station, IR could have instead run the specials from CNB to Sarai Gopal via this line. Whilst the mps is only 110 at best and it's single, it's incredibly less congested and even if half a dozen trains could be shifted/newly introduced via development of satellite stations, that would count as a win in my book.
