India's first AC railway station: where did they mess up?

Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) is India's first centrally air conditioned railway station, supposed to resemble an airport.

South Western Railways (SWR) took 6 years and over 300 crores to construct SMVT, but it's sad to see the numerous design flaws. At first sight, it looks like an airport, but once you're inside, you realize it's bad at the basics.

It's hard to get to, uncomfortable to wait in, and confusing to get around. Despite using a lot of space and materials, it feels incomplete and wasteful rather than adding any value.

India ki pehli AC railway station: kaha chuk gaye?

Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) Bharat ki pehli centrally air conditioned railway station hai, jo ek airport jaise dikhai dene ke liye design kiya gaya hai.

South Western Railways (SWR) ne SMVT banane mein 6 saal aur 300 crore se zyada kharch kiya, isliye iski design mein itne saare issues dekhkar dil udas ho jata hai. Pehli nazar mein toh yeh building ek airport ki tarah dikhti hai, lekin jab aap paas aate hain aur space ka istemal karna shuru karte hain toh aapko realize hota hai ki yeh basic cheezon mein bekaar hai.

Yahaan pahunch pana mushkil hai, wait karna uncomfortable hai, aur navigation karna confusing hai. Bahut saara space aur material istemal kiya gaya hai lekin value create karne ke bajaye woh incomplete aur bekaar mehsoos hote hain.
