Within this year the passengers of the Catania metro will be able to travel on the line on a new train , for the first time in twenty years .
In fact, the arrival of the first of the eight electric trains still in service dates back to 2001, which replaced the three former FCU railcars restored to metropolitan use previously used by the opening of the infrastructure in 1999 (at the time the section in operation was the Borgo-Porto of 3.8 km).
This morning, in fact, the leaders of the Circumetnea Railway confirmed the timing communicated last November in a previous interview , announcing the arrival of the first of the new trains for September , which will be followed by the delivery of the remaining nine foreseen in this first tranche. every thirty days, therefore by summer 2022

The trains will have the same configuration as the current ones, with standard two-car composition, each equipped with a driver's cabin, but, unlike the current trains, the wagons will be communicating with each other . The rooms, air-conditioned and with eight openings per wagon (four per side), in compliance with the most recent safety regulations, will be equipped with video surveillance and a digital audio-video information system.. Capacity and dimensions completely similar to the trains already in service: in the two-car configuration, 40 meters long and over 420 seats for passengers, with seats reserved for the disabled and for bicycles. Data that doubles in the case of use with four boxes (two coupled trains), set-up provided by the FCE during peak hours, based on demand, with a length of 80 meters, therefore with total occupation of the platforms of the Etna metro stops.
