Poorva Express meets Malda Howrah Intercity over world's longest short brick viaduct...Baman Viaduct.
This viaduct was completed in 1856 supervised by Mr. Nafarchandra Kundu. Situated between Gangpur and Barddhaman, it is a marvelous example of early engineering. No concrete is used. Foundation is also made up of brick and by inverted arch the whole weight distributed equally. 4 Car EMU trains (Railway Staff Special),
Eastern Railway-Howrah division.
Previously such 4 or 6 Car services were operated on the Bimanbandar-Circular Railway & Tarakeswar-Arambagh sections respectively about 10 years ago. Such mini-rakes were again operated during the 1st phase of Lockdown and one can expect not to see them again!
