12101 Jnaneswari Super Deluxe Express that left Mumbai at 8.35pm on Monday is expected to arrive at Howrah around 3.35am on Thursday , 24 hours behind schedule because of rain. This only goes to show that little attention has been paid to infrastructure over the last several years.

Azad Hind Express, which left Pune at 6.25pm on Monday is expected to reach Howrah around midnight on Wednesday , 10 hours behind schedule. The 12860 Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, 18030 Shalimar-LTT Express, 18030 Shalimar-LTT Express and 02512 KamakhyaPuri Express that left on Tuesday are on diverted routes and will reach their destinations well behind schedule.

“Tracks were inundated between Jharsuguda and Ib stations since Tuesday .
All train services in the Jharsuguda-Raigarh section were suspended since 4.10pm on Tuesday . Due to this, trains had to be diverted through Raipur and Sambalpur,“ an SER official said.

Jnaneswari Express had already reached Raigarh when it was learnt that the tracks ahead were flooded. The locomo tive was reversed and sent back to Raipur, where a diesel locomotive was attached and the train was taken to Titlagarh. At Titlagarh, the engine was reversed again before it could reach Sambalpur and then proceed towards Howrah. The passengers were certainly not amused.
What happened to Azad Hind Express could be called a comedy of errors but the passengers weren't laughing. When the train reached Raigarh around 6.25pm on Tuesday, the tracks ahead were inundated. It was taken back to Raipur.
After the train complet ed this 243km journey , information came that water had started reced ing. The train was back on its original route and it returned to Raigarh.

“As these Down trains are delayed, forcing us to reschedule Up trains that were to leave Howrah on Wednesday. Azad Hind Express that was to start from Howrah at 9.55pm on Wednesday will now start at 8am on Thursday . Jnaneswari Express will leave at 12.30pm on Thursday . Howrah-Puri Sri Jagannath Express left Howrah at 10.55pm on Wednesday instead of 7 pm. We are making all efforts to keep trains running.
None has been cancelled till now,“ said Soumitra Majumdar, SER CPRO.
