2 feet 6 inch gauge No 701 nears Solan with the 1210 Kalka to Shimla. These 2008 built ZDM3 locos look very different to the earlier versions built in the 1970s, which had a single driving cab.

Kalka to Shimla Train Journey
This is an old scan of a photo I took while in India. The kid was too shy to let me take a photo of him looking at the camera and would keep turning away, so I just kept snapping happily away. This was on print film, before I started using slide film, I wish I'd started earlier, as the colours aren't that great.

Sitting by the Door of the Train
They aren't quite as strict with sitting arrangements on the Shimla toy train as they are on SW Trains! I spent most of the journey perched in the doorway, with the door wide open next to me and my feet resting on the step. It gave me access to all the best views and a wonderful feeling of being truly alive as I watched the world go by.
