The project was surveyed and a groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019. The tender for the 41 km Dharashiv-Tuljapur section has been finalized at a cost of 487 crore rupees. The Maha Vikas Aghadi government has allocated 452 crore rupees for the entire project. The first phase, costing 487 crore rupees, will cover the 41.4 km stretch from Dharashiv to Tuljapur. The line will connect the Tuljapur pilgrimage center to the railway network, facilitating travel for devotees from various parts of the country. It is estimated that the completion of the project will take at least five more years.
