read full article... Slowed down roll-out of Kavach may be attributed to several reasons

Kavach, India's indigenous Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), has faced a slow rollout due to the Railway Board's initial decision to adopt the expensive European Train Control System (ETCS). Despite extensive testing and achieving the highest safety standard, Kavach's implementation was delayed. The decision to opt for ETCS was later reversed...

due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing Kavach back into focus. Kavach Version 3.2 has been implemented on approximately 1,465 km of the South Central Railway, covering 133 stations, 29 level crossings, and 150 locomotives. Version 4 is currently being tested and deployed across 3,000 km in the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata sections. The system's development was initiated by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in Lucknow, following the Anil Kakodkar Committee's recommendation for an advanced signaling system. While Kavach demonstrated its capabilities, its implementation was delayed due to the initial focus on ETCS. The Railway Board later opted for ETCS Level 1 for major routes and Kavach for less important lines. The decision to switch to ETCS Level 2 was made in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the tender process. The Balasore train accident in June 2023 accelerated the deployment of Kavach, and it is projected that the system could be installed on 10,000 km of main trunk lines within the next seven years, pending the resolution of some technical issues.

Kavach, India ka apna Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), bahut slow chal raha hai, kyunki Railway Board pehle mahenge European Train Control System (ETCS) ko choose karna chahta tha. Bahut test hone ke baad bhi, Kavach ko jaldi implement nahi kiya gaya. ETCS ka idea COVID-19 pandemic ki wajah se change...

ho gaya, aur Kavach firse focus mein aaya. Kavach Version 3.2, South Central Railway ke 1,465 km pe laga hai, 133 stations, 29 level crossings aur 150 locomotives ko cover karta hai. Version 4 ab Delhi-Mumbai aur Delhi-Kolkata ke 3,000 km pe test aur deploy ho raha hai. Yeh system Lucknow ke Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) ne banaya tha, Anil Kakodkar Committee ke advice ke baad, jisme unhone advanced signaling system ka suggestion diya tha. Kavach apna kaam kar sakta tha, lekin ETCS pe focus hone ki wajah se delay ho gaya. Railway Board ne baad me ETCS Level 1 ko main routes pe aur Kavach ko kam important routes pe use karne ka decision liya. 2020 me ETCS Level 2 ko choose kiya gaya, lekin COVID-19 pandemic ki wajah se tender process ruk gaya. June 2023 me Balasore ka train accident hone ke baad, Kavach ko jaldi lagaaya ja raha hai. Abhi kuch technical problems solve hone par, next 7 saal mein 10,000 km main trunk lines pe yeh system lag jaayega.
