“The ministry is thinking on two aspects. How to bring back train passengers who may want to switch to airlines when the ticket fares spike as compared to the base fare cost, and second, on how the railways will continue to make earnings by encouraging passenger occupancy in trains,” a senior railway official said.

* Above statement is highly ridiculous. Either the official is fool (which he is not) or he thinks that public is fool (which definitely is not). Had IR really interested to bring back paxs to rail, they

would have reduced the maximum flexifare from 50% to 20/30% as indications were clear within a few weeks of flexifare imposition, that paxs were avoiding tickets with higher flexifare (30% or more).
* Actually IR want to profiteer from middle class ACIII & ACII paxs by hoping to keep fares just below the air fares. They fail to understand that ACIII is not so comfortable and people will pay a little bit extra for ultra fast air journey and falling air fares are like an olive branch for them. Once electric cars get a little more developed, the environmental benefit and lower fuel cost advantage of IR shall wither away.
* Such mediocre and monopolistic thinking under te strong grip of political clutches has resulted in IR losing its freight/pax traffic market share from 90%/75% in 1950 to about 30%/15% today and is constantly falling.

Delhi-Chandigarh route have a very high % of premium travellers willing to shell out more for better experience.
A much faster train service with comfortable journey can very easily make people switch over from cars/luxury buses/ aeroplane to trains.
IR recognize this fact very well and has declared second HST route to be Delhi to Amritsar and that too via Chandigarh!!

yes sir,,,
TODAYS
availability in shatabdi
kalka shatabdi current avbl 400 (13 CC coaches it have ) 50% plus occupancy
current avbl in 13 in EC (2 coaches of EC) 90% occupany
which
...
is good and railway getting profit from this too
now in chandigarh shatabdi
avbl 383 in CC out of 675 seats i think which is fair
2wl in EC Excellent occupancy
for tomorrow
kalka shatabdi morning slot
waiting in both CC and EC
i think if tejas introduced from NDLS to CDG it will get in beginning 30-40% occupancy in CC, and damn sure EC will be hit due to high high demand in EC
and if they replace it with kalka shatabdi and extend tejas to Kalka
then damn sure will be hit one...
