* Almost every knowledgeable Indian believe that the INDIAN RAILWAYS is blessing in disguise from British Raj. They were constructed to facilitate quick military/police movement to strengthen their Governance, Administration, against any freedom movement, and to boost their business/Profits by transporting huge volume of goods, for Export/Import over vast subcontinent of India.
* But the crucial info that the project cost was inflated 9 times to loot Indians is a hitherto little known info. Inflation of project cost is a one mode of corruption and supplying substandard product/services is another. Britishers believed in the former where as Indians believe in both!!

There are basically 2 classes of people in almost every society/situation- the exploiters and the exploited. During British Raj the Britishers & Indians in general played these two roles. Today the role is more or less played by the "Rich & powerful" and the common man including rail traveller.
