Planning an early morning trip tomorrow along with my sahadharmini to the shrine of Lord Shiva aka Taraknath at the temple town of Tarakeshwar, 57 kms from Howrah.
Tarakeshwar, one of the most acclaimed religious destinations in West Bengal of India, is perfectly situated in a picturesque town in the district of Hooghly. This temple town hosts millions of pilgrims from all through India and also from foreign countries. The famous Tarakeshwar Temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and is a major shivaite pilgrim center.

Tarakeshwar is overwhelmed by the flow of pilgrims during the Sravan month (July – August). Maha Shivratri is an important festival in this town. It is celebrated with major fairs and shopping festivals. It is celebrated in a grandeur style in the month of February-March. Other festival celebrated here are the Bengali New Year or the Chaitra Sankranti festival.
