Sped up on paper, but does it ever translate to reality? That Gondia to Rajnandgaon stretch is way too optimistic.

What is the benefit of terminating few trains at Dadar instead of CSMT? Especially this train is often terminated at Dadar in the morning but taken to Wadi Bunder & in evening departs from CSMT itself. What is the benefit? Any CR specialist pls reply .

Early termination is likely due to late arrivals which makes access to empty platforms unlikely, adding to further delays in getting rake to the yard and prepping it for return. For example, if the rake were to continue, it would take another 20 minutes to get there, possibly have to wait 10-15 minutes before a platform becomes available, then 15-20 minutes to take the rake back to yard (another 10 minutes or so). This adds almost an hour before the rake is in the yard which could affect return departure.

Raipur was added a few years later (around 1980), and two minute stop for 39 passengers in the same coach, at about 2 am in the morning was quite an experience. :)

Pretty much the same as today. I recall boarding the train at about 2 am at Raipur (around 1979-80 for the first time), and reaching Mumbai around 9.30 pm. The stops included Durg (loco change to diesel), Nagpur (loco change, continued diesel), Akola, Bhusaval (loco change to WCAM electric), technical stop at Igatpuri (bankers) and Kasara (bankers detached), Kalyan, Dadar and VT.

I also recall someone boarding Gitanjali from Howrah with plans to get off at Kharagpur (even though the distance restriction of 600 km applied), and he was in for a

shock when Gitanjali took him to Tatanagar instead (first stop).

Only in last decade stops have multiplied (shamelessly) to including Nasik, Malkapur, Shegaon, Wardha, Bhandara, Raigarh etc. Heck, they even tried Jhargram for goodness sake.

Gitanjali (like Duronto until recently) used to skip Raipur using the Sarona-Urkura bypass.

Yep, each 2 minute stop adds at least 5 minutes. Durg, for example, was a 20 minutes stop compared to 5 minutes now, but Gitanjali didn't stop at Rajnandgaon, Gondia and Bhandara (thats 15 minutes added). And fewer stops also allowed trains to make up time.

I also recall 12810/09 Mail (back then 2 up/1 down) skipping Sakti and Kharsia and covering Raigarh and Champa's 80 km section in about an hour, or less. Since these stops, it consistently takes almost 30 minutes or more and always gets delayed in the process

(even before the SECR idiocy that is plaguing these trains).

The stops are purely politically motivated. There are plenty of trains to cover Malkapur and Shegaon between Mumbai, Nagpur and Howrah, for example, but Gitanjali was handed these stops anyway. Even Jhargram was tried in SER.
