It is because of Banker locomotive attached at Karjat Jn and detached at Lonavala. Railway uses platform no. 1 at Lonavala.
There are only 3 platform at Lonavala. Platform no.1for Pune, no2 for Mumbai or Panvel and no. 3 for Lonavala Pune subarban local.
Banker Detachment needs Platform.
For your plan to work. Push Pull Mode like CR Rajdhani is needed to be adopted here.
Anyway most of time, Mainline stands blocked by Bankers so even there execution of this idea would be problematic.
