IR is planning to withdraw some Duronto trains and convert in into Superfast trains to increase revenue.
It will be interesting to see if Nagpur Duronto will enter the list? Although, NGP Duronto is popular and grosser train on holidays and in peak season, on weekdays, this train see poor occupancy.
I think this train will not be one of the Duronto's to be withdrawn. But if it is, it should be converted into a Superfast with only halts at Badnera, Akola, Bhusawal (technical halt) and Kalyan. Still the train will be grosser...
more... and people from Badnera and Akola will get a Superfast connection to Mumbai. I think a 2-3 min halt at these stations will not affect the overall schedule of this train.
Either this train can be continued to run as 12289 Nagpur Duronto (on Friday and Saturday) and 12290 Mumbai Duronto (on Saturday and Sunday) as there is heavy rush from NGP and Mumbai side on these days. So, people from NGP will have their own Duronto on these two days. For rest of the week, the train can be a Superfast one.
