The budget also allocates Rs 2286 crores for new lines, Rs 1531 crores for doubling existing tracks, and Rs 987 crores for passenger amenities, emphasizing modernization of major stations like Bengaluru Cantonment and Yeshwanthpur. Under the Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme, 48 stations in SWR are undergoing redevelopment. The budget also prioritizes accelerating train speeds between Bengaluru and Chennai, aiming to reduce travel time on the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru route. This involves upgrading tracks and installing new infrastructure to support trains operating at 200 km ph, initially on existing alignments before considering new high-speed corridors. Detailed project reports are expected to be finalized by March 2023. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) is upgrading Vande Bharat trains to align with this initiative.
