State Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced Vande Bharat Express from Mumbai to Solapur. Meanwhile, a senior Central Railway official said that it is not technically feasible to run Vande Bharat on the Mumbai to Solapur route.
Push Pull System in Ghat Section
It is noteworthy that in Mail-Express trains going from Mumbai to Pune or Nashik, additional engines (bunkers) have to be installed through push and pull system. Due to being the Western Ghats between Mumbai-Pune (Khandala-Lonavala), trains have to be fitted in front and rear of the trains. Similarly, trains require push and pull engines to cross the ghat of about 12 km from Kasara to Igatpuri on the northern line. Almost all trains including the Rajdhani Express from Mumbai to Pune-Nashik are traversed in the ghat section by bunker or push pull system with engines connecting back and forth.
Inbuilt Engine in Vande Bharat
It is noteworthy that the engine of Vande Bharat Express is inbuilt on both sides of the train itself. In this case push and pull system cannot be installed. It will be difficult to run Vande Bharat in the Ghat section. A senior official said that technical improvements will have to be made to run Vande Bharat on the ghat section. By the way, this state-of-the-art train can be run on the Mumbai-Goa route. Vande Bharat is a fast moving light weight state-of-the-art train. The Ministry of Railways has planned to run 100 such trains between different cities of India.
