While there are many exceptions, in general, in IR, the station from where the points are controlled, tends to have the 'junction' tag.
In cities like Madras, Bombay etc, the suburban networks are controlled from a central facility. In Madras, for example, the suburban network is controlled completely from Basin Bridge (BBQ) junction. All the other stations in the suburban network that have multiple routes merging there, like Washermanpet, Korukkupet etc., do not have the 'junction' tag.
