"Tejas" which was apparently a hit upon introduction has lost its "Tej" i.e. lusture and running with below 50% occupacncy even if JS waiting list is running high over 400. Some of the disadvantages of Tejas:
(1) Monsoon time table has played a spoilsport as it has increased the journey time from 8:30 rs by 2:00 hrs/ 2:15 hrs to 10:30/10:45 hrs. Even for comfortable Tejas seats this is too long a journey to be convenient to paxs. Overnight travel is preferable.
(2) Higher fare of AC chaircar Rs 1400 for Tejas...
more... against 945 for JS. Althogh Tejas is subsidised premium train (as compared to Shatabdi) the patronage is not high, Catering may be made optional so that fare comes down to Rs. 990 and occupancy of Tejas may improve a little bit.
(3) Should originate from Madgaon instead of Karmali.
(4) For MUM-GOA Tejas to be successful, the Konkan Rly tracks have to be doubled and upgraded to 140/150kmph so that the journey time is just about 6 hrs, and catering charges have to be made optional.
