Kanyakumari, especially the youth, are educated and trained in various skills/ occupations. But employment opportunities for all of them are very much limited. Therefore, many of them have landed in jobs outside the district in various towns and cities in other states. For their mobility and transportation, train travel is very helpful and cost-effective. But unfortunately trains reaching Kanyakumari district from other districts and states are very much limited in numbers. If the following trains can be extended/ regularized, it would be of immense help both to the people.

Kanyakumari – Mangalore overnight train Service
There is no direct overnight train connectivity between Mangalore and Kanyakumari. Common passengers, pilgrims and tourists travel between Kanyakumari and Mangalore, Kasaragod, Cannanore, Mahe, Tellicherry, Calicut, Shoranur, and many intermediate stations. It is kindly requested that suitable arrangements be made to operate an overnight express train between Kanyakumari and Mangalore.

Extension of Tiruchirapalli - Tirunelveli 22627/22628 Intercity to Trivandrum
A new train 22627/28 Tiruchirapalli-Tirunelveli intercity express was introduced in the 2012 Railway budget. This train is a boon for travelers from Tiruchirapalli and Madurai to southern Tamilnadu, and vice versa. If this train is extended to Nagercoil or Trivandrum, it would serve the entire Tiruchirapalli -Nagercoil section. Passengers bound to Kanyakumari and Trivandrum Districts from Tiruchirapalli /Madurai need not get down at Tirunelveli and commute to Trivandrum/Nagercoil by bus. At present, there are no train services from Trivandrum/Nagercoil to Madurai and beyond between 07:10 and 17:30 hrs, and from Madurai to Nagercoil between 05:00 and 14:30 hrs.

New daily superfast between Nagercoil and Chennai Central via. Namakkal
The existing two daily trains, viz. 12633/34 and 16723/24 are running to full occupancy all through the year. Getting a confirmed ticket in these trains is a herculaean task. No new daily train has been introduced between Chennai and Nagercoil since 2002. Traffic and demand has grown to a large extent. To meet the huge demand, it is requested that a daily superfast train be operated between Chennai Central and Nagercoil Via. Namakkal.
