Today I visited HWH station at 12 noon in a quest for procuring copies of the new TTs w.e.f 1st July 2013. My shopping list consisted of the following items :
1. TAAG - Revised price not yet announced
2. East Zone TT - Rs. 40
3. SE Zone TT - Rs. 40
4.
...
South Zone TT - Rs. 40
5. West Zone TT - Rs. 40
6. North Zone TT - Rs. 40
7. Kolkata Suburban TT (ER/SER/Metro) - Rs. 12
Enquired at 4 counters & stalls (including Wheelers') but no luck. The stock reply everywhere was " Enquire in the first week of July "
Finally struck PAY DIRT at the PF counter of the NEW COMPLEX where by way of a rather poor consolation, I managed to pick up item No. 7 at a cost of Rs. 12, after spending Rs. 28/- by way of transport charges and Rs. 5/- for a PF ticket .
RAIL PASSION or FANATICISM ?

A Journey To Remember!!
A memorable trip to the one of most beautiful places in India!! A hill station surrounded by hills, covered by mattress of green grass, with small little rivulets flowing in a fantasy world. Its non other than Araku.
October 21st 2012
It was morning, still the sky was dark at 4.45 am and i was lying on bed. my mobile
...
alarm woke me up, and sent birthday wishes to my Russian Bestie Victoria. Got ready in just few minutes, got the usual message from my co-rail-fan, Amarnadh, who was accompanying me for this special rail fanning day. In-fact, this was the plan by both of us. I left house bit early to catch up the fastest way to reach the station, that's an Auto. It was still dark outside, got a shared auto till a stop ahead, so that i can go to the other state way to get to the station in fast manner. Badly, i didn't have my breakfast, and expected to have some in the train. But i was dead wrong!!!
Reached the station by 5.30 am. Amarnadh, was already waiting for me on platform no: 5, that's where the famous train 58501 gets loaded with excited n happy crowd. But at the time, i was stunned to see 58538 Visakhapatnam - Koraput Passenger attached with VSKP WDM-3A # (???). Frankly, i never saw this train before, until Amar explained about it there itself. And in the far end, the usual humming sound of the EMD Loco from KJM shed, which proudly waited for its starter to go with 12805 Janmabhoomi Express. at 5.50 am, the Queen of SCR, 12728 Hyderabad - Visakhapatnam Godavari Express slowly crawled into platform - 1 with its usual link LGD WAP-4 # (???). as the time slowly ticked away, the 58538 hauled by the ALCO, slowly zugged out from the platform n was soon out of sight. Guess, we thought the platform would b free, but it wasn't. many passengers were excitedly waiting for the 58501 to come in. As the time hit 6.05 am, the KJM's EMD hummed louder and left the station slowly. Both of us were excited to hear the honk, but were disappointed. As the train's tail disappeared, soon came in, the premier Duronto, 22204 Secunderabad - Visakhapatnam AC Duronto hauled by LGD WAP-4 # (???), delayed by 5-10 mins. i didn't bother capturing it, but still, tried to take a glimpse of the green vinyl coated train entering the station. And finally, around 6.15 am, 58501 was shunted into platform 5 by a WDS.
And the fight began ........!!
The passengers started getting into the train, to grab the usual window seat towards the right. some of'em almost climbed inside through the emergency windows and as usual by the public method, just throw some handkerchief, or some suitcase or some baggage to claim tat's "this is my seat, i threw my property here." I wonder, they didn't throw any dollars or Durhams there!! within next 10 mins, almost all the General Class was filled up with passengers, and unbelievably, the Sleeper class was filled up too, only the First Class Non AC was spared. rather i can say, it was empty.
Quite Obvious, it was the month of Festivities across, n tourists are to fill up such trains. So no denial.
Well, me n Amar were standing helpless, almost were thinking that our plan was going end in a bad way, but we didn't fall back and started searching for the minor gaps, at least to travel by hanging near the door. And yes, we got'em too.
Around 6.35 am, a beautiful VSKP WAG-5 # 21151, got coupled to 58501, which was getting ready to haul the tiny 11 coach passenger.
As we both got glued up at the door, two more guys came up n stood near the door. luckily one guy, being healthy, proved to be a good defense all way through the journey. Or else, frankly, this Door-plating would have thrown both of us into some Hospital bed.
Time :- 6.50 am
The Maroon colored WAG-5 honked, the ALP peeked out, gaped when he saw the train was almost full and passengers hanging their dear lives near the door, waved the green flag at the guard.
And the journey began ....................
To b Cond .....

Part : 2
As the WAG-5 picked up the pace from mere caution speed of 10-15 kph, our legs started to tremble due to heavy crowd which is bulging out slowly n pushing us towards the edge of the door or u can say, almost hanging in mid air. We managed to push bulging crowd slowly towards the center, but it was of no use, not in any way. Out here, the WAG-5 increased its speed to about 40-60 kph n dashed through the crowded suburban houses, the honk was echoing, throughout the buildings.
I

felt the gush of cold air slapping on my tired face, holding on to the railing in one hand and handling Amar's camera in other. Even poor Amar had to suffer for a while due to heavy crowd who were showing no mercy to the people who were door-plating. The train finally screeches and comes to a 1 min halt at Marripalem P.H (Passenger Halt). The fellas near the steps, restricted other passengers from climbing into our coaches, it was like a burger stuffed with over loaded vegetables items. "I never ate a burger till date, but yes, i have seen their sizes." After few secs, AJJ's WAM-4 # (???) hauling the on time running 17016 Secunderabad - Bhubaneswar Visakha Express dashed past us with a normal speed around 60-70 kph. Now don't ask me, how did u know it was doing that speed, as the explanation is bit high in this case. The WAG-5 honked louder, probably to shoo away those people who were looking at us. As if 300 Aliens were aboard to some space station. #Sigh . The train picked up its usual 60-70 kph speed till Gopalapatnam RRI section, Amar was longing to capture the curves, but i pleaded him to hold on for a while as i was already standing on one leg. Both of us laughed hard to wear out the tiredness, probably, at that situation, only laughter saved us.
I don't want to extend more info about Simhachalam halts, 'cause they were usually getting loaded by local people. People, who were actually going for some work, some for the tour, some to meet their relatives. I just want to say, ECoR was a merciless zone of not introducing another train in this section. Anyways, no zonal topics, i'm sick of this. Carrying on with Halts, yes, something worth watching scenes in IR. in-fact, i could say, its rare. At Simhachalam station, 67291 Vizianagaram - Visakhapatnam MEMU was waiting for its clearance ahead. and as the train slowly approached near to North Simhachalam Station to take another halt (Boy, this is a passenger, and personally i hate them), I asked Amar to hand over the camera, but he himself popped out a bit to capture the ice cream liveried Raipur WDM-3A # (???) hauled 18517 Korba - Visakhapatnam Express. Time was 7.15 am, and guess who has arrived almost 40 mins early. Both of us looked each other into the face and burst into laughter, reason, SLACK. The others were wondering why we were laughing hysterically, but we ignored n continued our own rail language.
The next 20 mins, crossing the huge curve, stopping into Pendurthi Stn to load another crowd (Oh God Why), both of us were looking even more tired than before. Reason, none of us had a decent breakfast n had to drink water for the rest of the journey. The mps touched by 58501 from Visakhapatnam - Kottavalsa section, was around 80-90 kph!! not more, not less.
As we finally crawled into Kottavalsa, my mouth watered when my eyes shone on the hot idly's, vada's, and other breakfast goodies. Amar asked me to stay in the train, not to get down, but i was already hungry, as if a 1k rats invaded my little tummy. no sooner, in next 2 mins ... the WAGGIE honked, as if it was an Evil honk. I sulked n used some slang inside!!
But anyways .. the real fun is about to begin ...............!!
To b contd...
