Thrissur railway police sub-inspector Sivadasan said Ramachandran was travelling in a sleeper coach in Sabari Express from Kollam to Shoranur on a sleeper ticket to meet his son studying at Kerala Kalamandalam. A group of Andhra natives boarded the same coach from Thrissur.
He said the pilgrims wanted Ramachandran to leave the coach and the two accused assaulted him when he refused to do so. Ramachandran complained to the railway police when the train reached Shoranur railway station and two were taken into custody. The other pilgrims halted the train, demanding their release, while travellers in other trains quarrelled with them.
They resumed their journey later. On Thursday too, there was a similar incident of Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh assaulting a person in a train at Shoranur railway station.
Sivadasan said a commuter could travel in sleeper coaches between 6am and 9pm on a sleeper ticket as per the rules. The two have been booked under Sections 341, 323 read 34 of the IPC, which will invite three years’ imprisonment and jail term if found guilty.
