How does trainenquiry.com update the live position of trains? 15 Answers How does trainenquiry.com update the live position of trains? Aug 13 2011 (15:56) News Entry# 34002 They keep track of trains' movements Posted by: Rang De Basanti^ Added by: Rang De Basanti^ Aug 13 2011 (15:57) “Lorry hit at PRJ LC2. Incident happened around 14:50. Inform railway police immediately,” K. Ramesh, chief controller (punctuality), shouts with a sense of urgency into the mouthpiece of his communication equipment. To decode that into layman's terms, a lorry had crashed into a level-crossing gate near the Pattabiram junction. Mr.Ramesh coordinates the response that follows sitting inside a small cabin at the Southern Railway headquarters near the Chennai Central Station.Part of a small team that works round the clock over four shifts, invisible men such as Mr. Ramesh are responsible for guiding and controlling the movement of nearly 1,000 trains that are operated in the Chennai Division every day. They hand over trains from one station to the next “just like a baton in a relay race”, monitor crow nests atop overhead cables as they could cause short-circuiting, and alert the police in case a trespasser gets run over by a train. Every... more... @Prabhakar Agarwal**: Re# 223360-0 With the help of GPS. Will get back with more info on the same. @Pradyu విశాఖపట్టణం**: Re# 223360-1 I think GPS system yet to be introduced. May be train enquiry data is updated based on internal communication manually / computerized received from each railway station after arrival and departure. It is just my guess. @Ranjeet**: Re# 223360-2 GPS is used in high priority trains is what I have read. But manually it still works. Excerpts from train enquiry site, 'Over the years, Railways have built up an elaborate and... more... @Prabhakar Agarwal**: Re# 223360-0 Now many(almost all BG) section are equipped with Data Logger system. The info is passed to NTIS (national train inquiry system) either automatically by data logger(fitted at small roadside station for auto updation) or by operating control in Divi HQ who monitors each train movement or by station having stoppage by manual data logging. The system automatically updates itself in case of no further update or point to point update by station who have stoppage of that train(visible to public) and calculates delay status as per programing of NTIS system.... more... @Prabhakar Agarwal**: Re# 223360-0 To my information, observation and logical believe, it is all manually. When a train passes through a station having facility of Networking Computer, they update and that is saved into / served by the servers. @विश्व नाथ**: Re# 223360-4 I am resident of Ramgarh Cantt where as Ramgarh Cantt (SER) & Barkakana (ECR) station comes, I usually check the status of the train from Train Enquiry . com but I find the data provided by the site all the time wrong. So, why the data is all the time incorrect ? Is the Data Logger System is not installed in these railway divisions ? @Prabhakar Agarwal**: Re# 223360-7 As i have written in case of partial update or No update or good update the system calculates train running according to logged update or preprogrammed update matrix. For example on DBG-SPJ section Thalwara has data logger on track. @S K Jain**: Re# 223360-6 The train status is not manual. I did training in S&T dept of railways.. there one engineer showed us how it works.. basically there are sensors after every some kms.. which tell them from where the train is passing and can update the data in system... @Prabhakar Agarwal**: Re# 223360-7 your ramgadh, murri, (one more station with some power plant) are still manual updatons only.i think your ramgadh is full difence area and by road we can ranchi than by train na @guest: Re# 223360-9 How do those Sensors identify a train? @विश्व नाथ**: Re# 223360-8 Train 12817 has no stoppage between CNB~ANVT. Train enquiry never able to correctly predict arrival at ANVT of this train. So, I do not think that present system is good enough. It needs GPS system badly. @Ranjeet**: Re# 223360-14 The reason is very clear: After CNB no one feeds info in system.Naturally this has calculates ANVT arrival as per CNB departure but what happens en-route is known to local operating control only.At last it is ANVT who feeds data in NTIS after arrival of train at ANVT. The NTIS displays train running as per default calculation in absence of manual data logging hence lots of wrong running info are seen commonly.. @S K Jain**: Re# 223360-11 Those are like weight sensors.. whenever train passes through them..because of heavy weight it detects train.. and updates in system.. that is how they detect where exactly the train is currently.. and record all data.. |
