is one of the major commercial railway stations of the North Central Railway of Indian Railways, which zonal Head Quarter is centered in Allahabad. The station has won awards from Indian Railways for clean infrastructure in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1992.Express trains such as the Bhopal Express, Taj Express, Rajdhani Express, Garib Rath Express, Bhopal Shatabdi, and about 100 trains (considering both up and down tracks) stop at Gwalior.

Magadh Empire during the reign of Ashoka
( 273-232 B.C. ). With the decline of Mauryan
power, King Kharavela of Kalinga led on army
through Jharkhand and ransacked Rajgriha
and Pataliputra of Magadh. Later, Samudra
Gupta (335-380 A.D.) must have passed
through the area on his expedition to the
Deccan. Ranchi was the Capital of
Chotanagpur Raj which after the Mundas was
ruled by the Shah Deo's. They had their
Palace which still exists, at Ratu,
approximately 11 km from Ranchi.

#Stationhistory:- In 2003, the Ranchi division was carved out
from the existing Adra railway division of the
South Eastern Railway Zone . As of 2012
Ranchi Station is being renovated and
developed in the lines of Jaipur railway
station. The ceilings of the Unreserved
Ticketing System (UTS) and the Passenger
Reservation System (PRS) are being beautified
with scenery. The facade of the Ranchi
station has been improved in February 2012.
In Feb 2012 two new platforms were
added to the Ranchi station along with
mechanical interlocking system.
