A mighty riverside station, situated near the famous Rabindra Setu.
The station-side bus stop/ terminus has the most extensive bus service in or around Kolkata (probably the best in India too) but the area around it is not so clean.
All but one gates remain closed from 0000 to 0400 hours.
The station is so big that one can spend 20 minutes of time...
more... just looking around even without entering the actual platform.
Station is divided into two parts- for ER and SER (railfans will not see any WAP5 or WAP7 or any version of WDP4 in the SER section, ie, pf 17- 23). Two parts are joined by an footbridge which has escalator for upward direction at both the ends. A road outside the station can be used too to access both the parts.
TCs are deployed at almost all the exits.
Good food options are available near pf 14 and 22, though not very cheap.
Chilled drinking water taps are available in the station.
Two cab roads made entry inside the station which can be accessed with cars by paying.
Online retiring room booking and extension of general tickets are done from the kiosk near pf 10. Enquiry office is nearby.
UTS counters from no. 23 onward has ATVMs nearby and the one near the enquiry office too.
