authorities thought of having the power line between the tracks as is prevalent in Europe which also provides an aesthetic look.
But after consulting experts and studying the power systems of some existing metro lines, it was decided to go in for an overhead line, said Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy. “We will be striving to come up with a better design to compensate for the overhead traction line,” he said.
Tie-up with Transco
HMR has tied up with APTransco for uninterrupted power supply to the railway traction and also for the stations and depots. About 75 MW of power will be required a day for the project. Transco will be supplying 130 KV power, which will be scaled to 25 KV for the traction. It will 35 KV for the other auxiliary services at the depots/stations.
Four key substations are coming up for the project at Uppal, Miyapur, Yousufguda and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) Imliban. Construction at the five-acre Uppal site inside the depot is in an advanced stage of completion, while work on the Miyapur substation is set to begin on another five-acre site. These two are the main power receiving stations.
Free land to Transco
It is the same case with the Yousufguda substation where construction is expected to begin soon. Land at MGBS is yet to be delineated and these substations will be on one-acre sites each. Land has been given free to Transco for constructing these facilities with built in redundancies and extra cabling.
“The power supply system is being designed in such a manner that power can be drawn seamlessly from across any of the three corridors in case of a problem or failure on a particular stretch or corridor,” explained Mr. Reddy.

will also have a provision for a combined metro rail, MMTS and bus ticket to enable seamless travel on all public transport modes, said Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy.

At a meeting held with the top APSRTC authorities including its Vice-Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Khan on Tuesday at Bus Bhavan, Mr. Reddy assured that all the bus depots and key bus stations will be integrated with overhead metro rail stations through skywalks.

HMR/L&TMRH will be integrating RTC facilities at Miyapur and JBS depots to take care of bus passengers coming from North Telangana districts; at Dilsukhnagar bus depot for bus passengers coming from Nalgonda, Khammam and coastal districts; and at MGBS for linking up inter-State and inter-district bus services.

It was decided that the interchange metro station at MGBS serving both Corridor-I (Miyapur-LB Nagar) and Corridor-II (JBS-Falaknuma) will be integrated with MGBS providing easy access for metro rail and bus passengers without disturbing the existing bus operations.

Joint inspection
.
Interchange station designs would be frozen only after a joint inspection with the cost of any relocation of RTC facilities to be borne by HMR. A separate vehicular and pedestrian entry facility would also be built into MGBS for usage of the metro rail commuters from south bank of Musi.At JBS, Dilsukhnagar and Miyapur bus depots, HMR would provide metro rail connectivity through skywalks and landing facilities without any relocation of the existing depot facilities.

APSRTC’s new depot at Falaknuma would also be integrated with the metro rail services of the Falaknuma terminal station.

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director asserted that the metro rail corridors were not going anywhere near the Gowliguda hangar or the depot.

The APSRTC Managing Director on his part stated that matching technical gadgets would be provided in buses to facilitate the proposed combined ticket.
