Online Booking of Senior Citizen Quota (Guaranteed Lower Berth-Subject to availability) through IRCTC:

Enter ID and Password.
3. Enter the Station Code/Name and choose the appropriate Station from the drop down boxes. (Selecting the stations from the drop down boxes isnt necessary)
4. Select Date.
5. Choose the mode of ticket (Eticket/ITicket)
6. Keep the Quota as General.
7. Click on "Find Trains"
8. When the page loads, click on the circle against the desired train-desired class.
9. When the availability is displayed on the top right corner of the page, click on book against the desired date of journey. (Do not bother about the current status)
10. Enter the name of the passenger/age/gender/berth preference and click on the box against Senior Citizen column.
11. Make sure to enter age above 60 for senior citizen male and 58 for seniot citizen women.
12. Do not enter more than one name.
13. Even though berth preference would not matter in case confirmed berth against senior citizen quota are available, it is advisable to select lower berth against the "Berth Preference" Drop down box.
14. Click on the Senior Citizen box against the appropriate passenger name shall guarentee you of the appropriate concession. (40% for Senior Citizen >60 and 50% for Women>58)
15. Enter the security code and click on "Go".
16. If berths are available against Senior Citizen quota, you would see "Availability in Senior Citizen Quota: XX" under "Ticket Details" as well as the discounted fare (After Concession).
17. Click on "Make Payment", choose the desired payment method and confirm the booking.

Note:
1) Kindly check for availability against Lower Berth quota against the preferred train/class/date of journey through the official website/Indiarailinfo/Erail.
2) Make sure the booking against the General Quota is not restricted, i.e. the status against the same has not moved to Regret else you would be unable to make any bookings and have to wait till cancellation happens and booking resumes against the General Quota.

To add, female above 45 years can avail the same Senior Citizen Quota (Guaranteed Lower Berth-Subject to availability)
Follow the same instructions as given above. Kindly do not click again the "Senior Citizen Concession".
Make sure the lady travels alone.

In case of pregnant women, one has to take medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner and produce the same at the counter to avail the Senior Citizen Quota. (Without any concession).

Sorry for the delay. I was not infront of the system.
Kindly note that to avail the LB's according to Senior Citizen Quota one needs to book the passengers alone. If you do not book the passengers separate then you shall not be redirected to the availability of the concerned quota.
However it is always advisable to check for the availability regarding the same in the official website and/or other websites like Indiarailinfo.

basic difference between booking online and booking at counter is that, the PRS Clerks can very well see the berth being allocated as well as the coach against which the berth is going to get allocated. PRS Clerks can also block a particular berth on request of the passenger/s. (Subject to availability of the same).
There is no guarantee that if you book the lower berths against the Senior Citizen Quota online then you would get adjacent berths or even at the same coach.
