more... very rapid gauge conversion (for political mileage) with limited funds available, by compromising heavily on quality and safety parameters like, not going for straightening of track necessary for broadening of tracks in hilly sections, modernisation of signalling and adequate strengthening of foundation and tracks. As a result the gauge converted tracks could not give enough augmentation to the number of trains on the section and enough increase in the speeds/avg. speeds of the trains running on converted BG. MR wanted to complete the projects within its tenure to reap full electoral benefits and carried the job at break neck speed resulting in compromise with quality and safety.
