" I have,by virtue of my seniority due to age, acquired some kind of expertise(?), in booking tickets under the LB quota, for me and my wife, SEVERALLY and NOT JOINTLY, meaning separate tickets and not combined tickets. In all such cases, we are always under STRESS as to whether we would be allotted berths in separate or same coaches. Now take a look at my recent bookings.

Since, usually 2/4 berths are earmarked in each coach for the LB Quota,
I have now arrived at the conclusion that if the NUMBER OF AVAILABLE VACANT BERTHS IS AN EVEN NUMBER, THEN my wife & I get berths in the SAME COACH.
However, if the NUMBER OF AVAILABLE VACANT BERTHS IS AN ODD NUMBER, THEN my wife & I get berths in DIFFERENT COACHES

(An old post of mine dated 30th April, 2013, now reposted.)
By way of further confirmation, today I booked 2 separate tickets under LB quota, for myself and my wife, by 12253 YPR-Bhagalpur Anga Express for 3rd Jan, 2015. At the time of booking, 4 berths were available in sleeper class. As this was an EVEN number of vacant berths, we got accommodation in the same coach viz. S8/ 9 & 12.
