Vadodara city in central Gujarat received a staggering 442 mm of rainfall in just 12 hours on Wednesday leading to heavy water-logging. The sudden downpour has forced shut-down of the airport, cancellation of at least 22 trains in the Vadodara division.
The authorities have asked all government and private schools to remain closed on Thursday due to deluge-like conditions. The state government asked the local administration to shift people from low-lying areas in Vadodara if needed as water entered into houses in several localities.

Tracks go under water every monsoon, why no measures taken: HC
Tracks submerge under water every monsoon, paralysing the local train services in Mumbai, but the Railways has not taken any concrete steps to prevent it, the Bombay High Court said on Tuesday.
“Why cannot the Railways identify such spots and elevate the tracks?” Justice Kulkarni asked.
If the Railways were not able to manage this, it should consider privatisation, the court said.

The theft of face towels in AC compartments of trains has forced the Railway board to replace the quality towels with cheaper, takeaway napkins.
While the cost of the face towels currently given to the passengers, including procurement cost and washing, comes to around Rs 3.53 per piece, the board, in a letter written to the general managers of all the railway zones on June 26, has said the new napkins are expected to cost less as those will be ordered in bulk and will be smaller in size.
According to TNN, the

repeated theft of face towels took a toll on the AC Compartment attendants, who had their salaries cut by at least Rs. 500 in line with the thefts.
.
Facing flak over train delays and the services provided by the staff, the railways is now focusing on making the travel experience better for the passengers. Months after ordering all the zones to give nylon blankets to those travelling in AC coaches, the Railway Board now wants cotton-rich, non-woven face towels for them.
While the existing towels measure 52 cm x 40 cm, the new ones will be smaller at 40 cm x 30 cm.
.
The cost of the bedroll is included in the ticket fare for those travelling in AC coaches.
"The new towels will be environment-friendly and made of cotton to absorb more water," a railway official said.
Two such napkins per bedroll will be provided during long journeys, if required.

Why the hell do people take away hand/face towels? If you are rich enough to expend your money to buy an AC class ticket for your journey, then can't buy a towel yourself? Idiots.

Don't underestimate the cheapness of Public, I've seen people literally steal Hand Wash Liquids by putting them in empty water bottles during their journeys, some were caught stealing vegetable stained Bedsheets and Hand Towels are quite common thing to steal for many. That too in Premium Trains like Duronto and Rajdhani.
Just yesterday I was traveling in Mumbai Rajdhani, some people were caught stealing 3 Bedsheets (2 of those having Vegetable stains) by Coach Attendent.
Lots of these cases are happening, especially in AC 3.
