The best overnight train to travel on Konkan Railway specifically for Goa bound passengers. I finally got my first experience to travel in the "Rocket" and it really lived upto its name. Please find my observations based on my travel from Thane to Karwar and Madgaon to Thane in 3AC compartment listed below:
1. Punctuality: I've heard about it being delayed in the recent past due to the delayed departure but during my instance, it reached the destination quite decently. The Speeds that it hits are truly a treat for the railfans. 12134 impressed me a lot with the Alco chugging and going on a spree after Kankavali. The only issue is the 12134 getting a delayed departure from MAJN. In the
...
DOWN direction, it departed with a delay of half an hour and reached Karwar with a delay of a couple of hours and in the UP direction, it departed MAO with a delay of half an hour and reached Thane with a delay of an hour.
2. Coaches and Cleanliness: The Coach is of customary ICF design with decent interiors. The Linens and Pillows were very clean. Both 12133 and 12134 have OBHS(On-board Housekeeping Service) and the 3AC Coaches were quite clean. The staff arrived after MAO to collect the leftovers at each berth. Charging points with mobile holder are present at each bay and Side berths as well. A mirror is provided at each bay.
3. Toilets: It is equipped with Bio-Toilets (atleast in 3AC) and liquid soaps are provided. The toilets were quite clean throughout the journey.
4. Food: As there is no pantry car, food is provided by private vendors. In 12133, we had Veg Sandwich for 40 Rs which was decent. In 12134, the food was loaded at Kumta and served till we reached Kankavali. Chicken Biryani and Chapati Bhaji were available during our travel. Chapati Bhaji costed Rs. 45(4 Chapatis ad Potato Curry) and the taste was average and not that great. The roti is made of Refined Flour(Maida) and not Wheat Flour.
5. Booking/Reservation: If you are travelling from Mumbai To Madgaon and find the seats full, book upto Udupi. CSTM to UD comes under General Quota and hence there more seats available.
6. Railfanning: As it is a overnight train, there is not much in terms of railfanning(upto MAO) other than the lovely Alco chugging sounds and the magnificent speeds. If you are travelling upto MAJN, then you are in for a treat as it goes on a spree after MAO.
Have a safe trip.

Due to its speed and priority in the KR section during old legacy days. Although it runs with almost close to the old legacy days due to less congestion on KR due to covid-19, it was getting badly delayed pre-covid times.

nope the local taxi unions doesn't allow them to operate and govt. doesn't do anything because the taxi drivers and their families are vote banks for political parties and they don't want to lose that

As per the review of that app. it deducts 200 rs when you want to book the taxi. It goes for search after money is deducted. And most of the time you will get message that no taxis around your area. Then if you want to refund the money it goes to application wallet or paytm. So if you planning for it to be for Airport or Railway station, be careful.

Catching a bus on the flyover bridge is not safe ladies & families as you have to walk on the tracks. Back packers prefer this route.

Just outside PF1 there is prepaid taxi stand where you can tell the exact address and book a taxi. We went to Panaji and paid Rs. 1150/- Surprisingly, we booked cab from outside Panaji Bus stand while returning. The cab driver picked us from hotel and dropped to Madgaon Jn in Rs 900/- only.

There is park approx 1.5 KMS away from Madgaon Jn. Its call Aga Khan Children's Park and just near to it there is Govt park. The Aga Khan was closed when we reached there (it was 2 PM) but Govt park was open. There was cool breeze flowing so we sat and enjoyed. The park was clean. Just nearby the park, there is ice-cream shop. Ice cream was really nice. The auto rickshaw charged Rs. 120 from railway station (outside pf 3) and same amount while returning to station. People were waiting just outside the park for buses going to various destinations in Goa

The best and most convenient station to reach Palolem beach is Canacona. Please find some of my observations while I visited this station:
1. Palolem Beach (Pocket friendly hack): To save 1500 - 1800 rs of getting to the beach in a Taxi from Madgaon, use this station. There are some outsation trains which have a halt at Canacona(like Matsyagandha, Netravati and Gandhidham Nagercoil Express). If your train doesn't have a halt at Canacona but halts at Madgaon or Karwar, follow the below trick:
Look for a train that goes towards Karnataka from
...
Madgaon and halts at Canacona. If there isn't a train on the Madgaon - Karwar direction, get down at Karwar and take a train going towards Madgaon which halts at Canacona.
Eg: In our case, we booked 12133/Mumbai CSMT - Mangaluru Junction SF Express from CSTM to Udupi and got down at Karwar. Then we took 56640/Mangaluru Central - Madgaon Passenger from Karwar and got down at Canacona. Ticket cost: Just 10Rs per person from Karwar to Canacona.
Palolem beach is just 1.5 Kms away from the station and the best way to get to the beach or to a hotel closer to the beach is by walk. The autos charge Rs.100 from here to the beach.
2. NH 66: This station is very close to NH 66(Pnvel Kochi Highway). You will get KTCL, NWKRTC and variuous other public transport buses to Margao, Vasco and other parts of Goa and Karnataka from here.
3. Taxis/ Bike Pilots: We did not find any taxis at this station during our visit. Taxis would be available from NH66. No bike pilots are available at this station.
4. Bikes on rent: The closest bike rental is at a distance of 1 km away from the station, on the way to Palolem beach. The rates during Feb 2018 were 350 for an Activa/Scooty for a day, i.e 9 am to 9 pm. Do not pay any deposit. You need to keep an ID proof with them as a security for the bike. Do not keep your driving license. This is the best mean of transport for sight seeing.
5. Cleanliness: This is a very clean station with ample benches, watercooler and toilets, all available on PF 1. The ticket counter opens 2 hrs prior and closes 5 mins before a departure.
6. Places to Visit: a) Cola Beach: The best beach in Goa and infact in whole of India. You would be mesmerized by its beauty. There is sea on one side and a fresh water lagoon on the other side. We went there twice from Palolem on our rented scooty. The final 1.5 KM of road to the beach is very bumpy and requires some bit of offroading. After parking your bikes, you need to walk down about 50 steps to reach the beach. Distance: 12.5 KMS from Canacona.
b) Cabo-De-rama Fort: Known for the best views of the Arabian Sea, this is a fort which is covered by sea on three sides. A must visit place if you are in South Goa. Bonus Tip: After entering the fort, get down through the left side of the Church for some of the most magnificent sceneries.
c) Palolem Beach: A beach full of Shacks and Restaurants all over. Most crowded of all the South Goa Beaches but still beautiful than many of North Goa's best beaches. You can get a boat ride to Honeymoon Beach , Butterfly Beach and some Dolphin Spotting early morning. Distance: 1.5 KMS from Canacona.
d) Patnem Beach, Agonda Beach, Galgibaga Beach : Some of the other beaches which are less crowded and pretty.
e) Mallikarjun Temple: On the way to Galgibaga Beach on NH 66.
South Goa is the place to be in if you are looking for peace and serenity with clean beaches to stroll around.
Have a safe trip.

Yes bro. There are some other trains too that halt at CNO.
I had mentioned the Palolem beach hack for getting there from Madgaon.
If the train has a halt at CNO, then there is no issue.

yes, you are right, it is definitely more convenient if you select a train which stops at canacona. i stayed at palolem for 5 years between 2007 and 2012 and i find your posting exhaustive. congrats. You should try the Polem beach too. It is the last beach in Goa.

Thanks bro.
I found the Canacona city to be a relaxed and very peaceful place. It is really great that you stayed there for such a long period. Lucky you :D
The southern most beach which I visited was Galgibaga and it was amazing.
Xandrem and Polem are surely in my bucket list. As we travel further south in Goa, the beaches start getting
