Sirsi town is approx 60 Kms from Kumta railway station. From Sirsi, there is a village called Sonda approx 17 kms away on the banks of river Shamala. There are huge rocks in the riverbed on which Shivalingas are carved. The place is called as Sahsralinga. Few other places to visit are Marikamba temple and Aghanashini Valley.
Is there a direct bus from Kumta? How far is the Busstop from Kumta rail station?

Yes. There are plenty of buses from Kumta to Sirsi. There are many buses which starts from Kumta going to Bengaluru via Sirsi and buses from other places like Karwar-Sirsi will also pass through Kumta. If I am correct there may be more than 20 buses plying between Kumta Sirsi in a day.
Konkan Railway has facilitated the development of Railotels as an additional improvised passenger amenity in the vicinity of important stations. In this scheme so far, Railotels are commissioned at Ratnagiri (Maharashtra) and Kumta (Karnataka) stations.
