There's no cloak room in the station.. Even near the temple there's no dedicated cloak room.. Some footwear stalls /one of the dikshitars houses outside the temple may let you keep the luggage, highly unlikely though... So make your own arrangements if you carry heavy luggage with you

While at Chidambaram, its a not-to-be-missed location especially if you have good interest in nature or photography- the Pichavaram mangroves. One of the few still existing mangroves of our country, they provided a natural barrier against tsunami that rocked the South India few years back
the boat ride in the back-waters is a wonderful experience. You find a sense of isolation as the boat moves in vast waters and feel yourselves lost when you mov ein through the narrow passages of mangroves where an ocassional crow and regular kingfisher gives you company. The mangroves are homes to innumerable crabs so any crab eating animals can also be spotted if you are lucky- even otherwise boating through the salty back-waters itself is
...
an experience.
Since boats are open boats, prepeare yourself armoured for the direct heat if you are a heat allergic. and keep your camera fully charged if you are a camera addict
The spot if located about 7-8 kms from Chidambaram Town. Buses are available but not very regularly- better to engage a taxi for a relaxed enjoyment

Oh Good- try visiting the place where they meet the beach- I guess for that you need to get there early- We couldnt do that- Heard we could go there and relax on the beach sand and it consumes almost half a day I think

Chidambaram(Thillai) is the panchabhuta sthla of lord Shiva in space aspect ie Akasa. The deity is Nataraja or the Cosmic Dancer. The temple is unique in the face that it is a Vaishnava Divya Desam and Shaiva Sthalam. From one point in the temple, Lord Vishnu and Lord Nataraja can be seen simultaneously. Durin Arati, the priests remove the curtain behind the idol to reveal the Chidamba Rahasyam. The priests of this temple are Dikshitars and once there were 2999 of them and collectively called Thillai Moovairam.(thillai 3000). Also close by is the Kali temple where Kali stormed off after losing the dance contest with Lord Shiva while the judge Lord Vishnu as Govindaraja stayed on and on
