Other then Kodaikanal Road railway station, PALANI railway station also can be considered as next optional nearest railway station to reach KODAIKANAL which is 65 km away from this station.
But we have only 2 Express train to reach this station(22651/52 Palakkad Express and 16343/16344 Amritha Express) and others are passenger train.
Timing bus service from CBE, Palani to kodaikanal is available.

Agree
Ideally more trains should be released towards Palakkad via Palani, like from Rameswaram, Puducherry, Bangalore and many more cause Palani has become a hotspot for many pilgrims and for general public.... better to start more services to Palani rather than being dependent on the buses and more than that travelling by private transports.....

In that case, they should start the service from Mysuru or Bengaluru and terminate to Palakkad via Palani, with the same kind of route from Jolarpettai to Palakkad from the MAS PGT SF Express..... it would be ideal to have one either from these places.... only if someone could write to the Railways Minister or any Minister of state handling the Railways dept for demand of new train to Palani from either Mysuru or Bengaluru...🙏🙏🙏

Alight here for the famed hill station Kodaikanal. Buses and cabs are available right outside the station, timed to the arrival of trains. Travelers are advised to be sure of cab rates beforehand so as not to be fleeced. Approx. 80 km by plain road, ghat roads, and hairpin bends. Alternatively one can get down at Dindigul (DG) also, a bigger town, which entails a longer road travel, approx 95 km.

In 1875, the Great Southern India Railway Co. extended its line from Chennai to Tirunelveli and a train station named Kodai Road was built near Ammaianayakkanur village, to facilitate visits to the then new hill station of Kodaikanal. It has been operated by the Southern Railway Zone of the Indian Railway since 1951.
Kodai Road continues to serve as the rail to bus transfer point for passengers going to the now popular tourist destination of Kodaikanal, about 2 hours distant via the SH-156 Ghat Road. It also serves the nearby village of Kolinchipatti. This village is famous for flowers. Among the approximately 30 trains per day that serve Kodai Road is the Pandian Express, which runs between Chennai Egmore and Madurai.
