As the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra has become worrying at a time when the overall pandemic situation in the country is in control, several districts have reimposed fresh restrictions. With this, lockdown, weekend lockdown, night curfew are reappearing. Here is the list of new restrictions in place.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is not mulling lockdown at this moment. But on Thursday, the civic body has released a set of stringent rules.
Residential buildings with more than five active Covid-19 cases will be sealed.
Those who will be found flouting Covid-19 rules will be prosecuted.
Travellers coming to Mumbai from Brazil will have to remain under seven-day institutional quarantine.
Over 6,000 new cases as Covid-19 continues to surge in Maharashtra
Those who are supposed to be home quarantine will be stamped so that they can't flout quarantine rules.
300 marshals deployed at Mumbai locals to take action against passengers travelling without masks.
Regular inspection at halls, wedding venues to check whether Covid-19 norms are being maintained at these gatherings.
Amravati, Akola
Weekend lockdown will begin at Amravati and Akola from 8pm on Saturday and will go on till 7am on Monday. This is to check crowding at market places during this weekend. Apart from emergency services, everything else will remain closed. The lockdown order is only for this weekend as the authorities will take the next steps after seeing Covid-19 situation next week.
A 10-day lockdown has already started from Thursday night. Around 500 tests will be conducted per day in Yavatmal, Pandharkawada and Pusa.
Schools and colleges will remain closed until further notice.
No religious functions will be allowed and weddings can be held only with 50 guests.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has imposed a 50 per cent restriction capacity on wedding halls and said that only 20 people will be allowed in funerals. Like in Mumbai, buildings with more than five Covid-19 cases will be sealed and people under home quarantine would be stamped on their hands.
Markets will close by 7pm and eateries are allowed to operate only till 9pm.
To impose complete lockdown, district authorities will need permission from the Centre as the Centre in its series of unlocking guidelines emphasised more on reopening in a controlled manner. Hence, these fresh orders are not being called lockdowns.
The Vidarbha region of Maharashtra is seeing a sudden uptick in the number of Covid-19 cases. Out of 11 districts in the region, the five worst-hit are Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Buldana and Washim.

Nagpur: Nagpur division is slated to run at a speed of 130kmph in another four to five months as the process to do so has already begun, said general manager of Central Railway Sanjeev Mittal in a virtual press conference on Friday.Mittal stated that the trial run took place on the Nagpur-Itarsi section and that the same is scheduled from Nagpur to Ballarshah in the coming days.
Sounding hopeful, Mittal, who conducted the annual inspection on the Ballarshah-Sewagram section on Friday, said that reports would be sent to the commission of railway safety (CRS) after the completion of the trial in presence of the research designs and standards organization (RDSO).
would provide the inputs about the trials to the CRS which would conduct the critical scrutiny of the reports and also ground zero checking before approving the 130kmph proposal. As we are already into the process, it would expectedly see the light of day in another four to five months,” said Mittal.
Mittal, who was accompanied by the principal heads of the department and divisional railway manager (DRM) Richa Khare for the inspection, also said that the railways would ensure that the national highway authorities of India (NHAI) procured all the necessary permissions from the concerned authorities as well as compensatory afforestation before commencement of the civil work of the Ajni inter-modal station.
“CR had already sought permission for chopping nearly 305 trees for the 12,000 horsepower locoshed at Ajni. We will first undertake afforestation of more than 1,500 trees,” said the GM who had earlier in the day inspected the route relay inter-locking cabin, railway protection force (RPF) canine squad, automated ticket checking and management access (ATMA) at Ballarshah.
Mittal, who also inspected the station premises, safety exhibition, commercial stalls, mechanical units, medical facilities, CCTV systems at Chandrapur, said various infrastructure development works would be undertaken in the coming days at Nagpur and Ajni railway stations. “There’s been remarkable progress in loading of the coal consignment after a dip in mid-2020 due to Corona. We are regularly having meetings with western coalfield limited (WCL),” said the GM adding that CR, especially Nagpur and Mumbai division, were successful in helping 8.5 lakhs migrants return home.

Yavatmal: Work on the much-awaited 79-km Yavatmal-Digras railway line, part of the long pending Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway line project, will begin soon with two tenders being approved for an estimated cost of Rs.934 crore.
While the contract for earthwork of 32km, costing Rs486 crore, has been granted to one Patel Engineering, the remaining length of 47km, estimated to cost Rs448 crore, has been allotted to one Shree Raj Rajeshwar Construction Company. Both the works would start simultaneously.
The earthwork of the new railway track between Wardha and Yavatmal is almost complete, with small bridges
already being built and construction of a major bridge over Shirpur river is underway.
Work on the railway line beyond Digras will also been taken up within four months, informed Lok Sabha member from Washim-Yavatmal constituency Bhavana Gawali.
There are a few tunnels, the longest being 2.5km-long on the stretch, which are yet to be completed, said Gawali. Also, the railway line will pass through some forested areas and efforts are afoot to get green signal from the ministry of environment, forest and climate change.
“The main hurdle is, however, shortage of staff, for which I have urged railway minister and Railway Recruitment Board to fill up the vacancies so that the project can be expedited,” said Gawali.
Construction of stations on the railway line will start soon and bhoomi puja of the proposed railway station at Yavatmal has already been performed, said the MP.
