The Northeast Frontier Railway Construction Organisation is working to enhance railway connectivity in the state and other areas lying within its zone, besides undertaking some major works that have been recently commissioned.Officials at NFR (Construction) said that the Tetelia-Kamalajari (10 km) section of Tetelia-Byrnihat (21.5 km) new line project has been completed and engine rolling in the stretch was done on March 28.
“Out of the 21.5 km stretch, 19.2 km falls in Assam and 2.3 km falls in Meghalaya. The Tetelia-Kamalajari section has one tunnel of 500-metre length, two major bridges and 24 minor bridges. The section has been planned for commissioning in August this year,” informed an official.

added, “NFR has commissioned new broadgauge line along 11.50 km on the Gauripur-Alamganj section of New Maynaguri-Jogighopa (288.88 km) new line project in the north bank of the Brahmaputra. After completion of track laying, goods train movement was also tried recently.”
He said that two doubling projects, namely New Coochbehar-Gumanihat (29.32 km) and New Coochbehar-Samuktala Road Junction (29.02 km) were completed after CRS inspection on March 27.
Meanwhile, NFR has decided to immediately increase the speed of trains in two sections under Rangiya Division. The sections are North Lakhimpur-Sripani, a distance of almost 82 km, where the speed will be raised from 80 km per hour to 100 km per hour.
In addition, the speed in the section Sripani-Murkongselek, which is a distance of 74 km, will be raised from 75 km per hour to 100 km per hour.
“Increasing of speed has multifarious benefits. It leads to more efficient utilisation of fixed assets like railway tracks which leads to increase in carrying capacity of the track. This means more trains can ply without increasing track length or incurring further financial investment,” mentioned an official.

Dhubri: Northeast Frontier Railway General Manager Mr.H.K.Jaggi today said the new railway line project between Gauripur (on Alipur Daur Division) and Abhayapuri (on Rangiya Division) will be expedited on a war footing and completed within the deadline.
Jaggi arrived at Golokganj in a special train, accompanied by Alipurduar divisional railway manager Sanjeev Kishore and a host of other top officials, and held a meeting in his conference hall inside the train.

district.
Talking to media at Golokganj, Jaggi said his priority was to complete the project within the deadline. “I have come here to inspect the progress of works between Gauripur to Abhayapuri and if it is found to be lagging, it will be expedited as there is no dearth of funds now.”
Asked about problems in acquiring land for the project at some places, Jaggi said there were some issues but those are being sorted out. Replying to a question about running trains on the new track till Bilasipara, he said some of the major railway bridges were yet be completed but stressed on running trains on the completed section within this year. He said trains would run on the entire route in 2018 as promised.

Several memorandums were submitted to Jaggi at Golokganj junction, including those by the residents of Gauripur and Golokganj Development Committee.
The delegation of Gauripur residents, led by social activist Kulodhar Das, handed over a memorandum to Jaggi and urged him to build the Gauripur railway junction as a replica of Gauripur Matiabag Palace, as had been done at various stations like Cooch Behar railway station, which is a replica of the Maharaja Palace (built on the lines of Buckingham Palace).
“Gauripur is the centre of Goalpariya culture. The interiors of the station should showcase the cultural features of the area, helping visitors to understand the significance of Goalpariya culture,” Jyotirmoy Chakraborty, a member of the delegation, said.
The delegation from Golokganj Development Committee also highlighted the inconveniences faced by commuters, including lack of lights, drinking water and reservation counters.

Bilasipara:  In the mass convention held at Bilasipara, leaders of various parties stressed the need to launch a movement to mount pressure on the Union railway ministry to immediately expedite work on the project from Gauripur to Jogighopa.
Work on the project was stopped in May this year owing to non-sanctioning of funds though the railway ministry in its last budget had reportedly sanctioned Rs 145 crore. The fund was not routed to the Northeast Frontier Railway for reasons best known to the ministry, several leaders alleged.

the New Moinaguri-Jogighopa New Railway Line Demand Committee at the Pratima Barua Pandey Memorial Hall in Bilasipara town today.
New Moinaguri is in Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district.
Speaking on the occasion, former Bengal forest minister Ananta Roy, a member of the committee, said the railway department thought that completion of a part of the project from New Cooch Behar to Dhubri would bring an end to their movement. But their movement is still alive and the demand committee will not stop until the rest of the project is completed, Roy said.
Former Bengal legislator Tamser Ali, also a member of the committee, while demanding the railway ministry complete the work immediately, said the former joint-convener of the committee, late Chandi Paul who led this movement, used to say that if people did not come out to the streets to get their demands fulfilled, the government would not do anything. “So now instead of sitting idle, we have to hit the streets and get our demands fulfilled,” Ali added.
Addressing the convention, Dhubri district AGP president Amal Kumar Saha stressed the speedy completion of the railway project and demanded a new express train from Dhubri to Calcutta to be introduced soon.
Leaders of all political parties including the Congress and BJP spoke at the convention and demanded the project to be completed soon.
Earlier, one of the two joint conveners, Tazmul Haque, in his speech, traced the outline of the 17-year movement of the demand committees and said all the political parties have now joined hands and come to one platform with a common demand to complete the project.
Completion of this railway project will not only boost the railway communication of this region but will bring a sea change in the economic condition of the people, Haque added.
The meeting was presided by former Deputy Speaker Giasuddin Ahmed.
