I have never agreed with Madras turning Chennai. I still prefer Madras for Chennai. Govt here made this change on seeing other cities doing that. Chennapatnam was named by Damarla Venkatadri Nayaka in honour of his father, Damarla Chennappa Nayakudu from which Chennai came. I always believe that cities should retain old name, to change name is like changing your roots. The name change tamasha is only going in india. London, Rome have existed for past 2000+ years why were they not renamed?
