Excessive hype over Naya Raipur which is not yet populated has finally fizzled out. A lot of infrastructure like an array of railway stations, network of 4/6 lane roads etc have been constructed/planned in and around Naya Raipur since last 10-15 years whereas the road network of existing cities is in need of investment for augmentation/upgradation.

The main culprit here is state bureaucracy which didn't show interest in shifting their residence to new capital for 12 years; nor the ministers showed any interest; chief Secretary has moved there just two months back , rest are still to follow. In absence of political/official backing hospitals, educational institutions and top brand chains/retail markets didn't open their branches there discouraging the denizens to settle there and instead travel daily from old city. Adding to the woes, property rates (both govt and private)are sky high; not affordable by middle class.

In the case of Navi Mumbai also, which was planned about 4 decades ago for a population of 40 lacs, the original planners very strongly recommended shifting of State Govt headquarters from Nariman Point to Navi Mumbai just as was done in shifting of national capital to New Delhi. Even today the Navi Mumbai is falling short of the original target.

Some what better than Navi Mumbai that all offices are now working from there and from 9 to 6 its a proper state capital, but after evening all roads going to old city get choked by office to home going staffers and capital wores a deserted look with only some grade 4 employee and shift workers left back. Crime rate also increases manifold after dark as spoilt youth indulge there in crimes like drink n drive, car race, theft and burglary.
